If you mean you tried to add a custom boot entry for windows to /etc/default/grub... Don't. Literal grub configuration fragments you want added to /boot/grub/grub.cfg go in e.g. /etc/grub.d/40_custom, whereas /etc/default/grub is for variables controlling the behaviour of grub-mkconfig.it is exactly where i attempted to manually add my windows to grub.
