Hardware: GeForce RTX 5070.

Which flavor have you installed? (https://wiki.debian.org/NvidiaGraphicsDrivers#flavor) Blackwell (50xx) works only with the open one.

Downloaded and installed the proprietary NVIDIA driver using the official NVIDIA website (NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-580.126.18.run) installer and rebooted the system.

This installation/packaging method is not recommended: see https://wiki.debian.org/NvidiaGraphicsDrivers#packaging and https://wiki.debian.org/DontBreakDebian ... ll_scripts
As you have a Blackwell card, the NV-packaged DC driver is the best option.
