That extra machine already has LinuxMint installed, not Debian.
I prefer Debian to LinuxMint. However, I don't have the time nor the inclination to do the work to completely replace the extra machine's OS with Debian. This is part of the reason for my ideal hoped-for solution to this problem to be the dual-IP set-up under Debian.
But again, at worst case, I could live with Debian listening to aaa.bbb.ccc.original and LinuxMint listening to aaa.bbb.ccc.new.
