I use here

Code:

GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX=keep

Karl

What is the full path to the file you are talking about, please ?

Code:

/etc/default/grub

;)

Karl

Unwittingly, I was editing a different file, the one in /etc/defalt/grub.d

When I finally tried the the file in your location, I saw changes during boot. I had to create that file first.

The remaining problem is that just before the textual login promt appears, the screen of boot messages clears. But I have not yet tried @mrmazda suggested edit of TTYVTDisallocate
