I believe I added nonfree firmware to my apt config file. If I remember correctly, my intention was to use intel's microcode. I was wondering if that could be my issue. Right now I believe the config is left as as directed by the proprietary driver instructions. I will try your sugestions over the next couple of days and report back. Thanks again learning a lot!
