System and Network configuration • Struggling to make VPN work

Hi all!

To start, please consider me a newbie in all aspects and we'll go from there :? My levels of knowledge are just all over the place. I'm on Debian 13, KDE Plasma.

My family pays for Adguard VPN, so I decided to use it rather than pick other options. Got the adguardvpn-cli tool (do I call it a tool? a program?). It appears to connect successfully but pages do not load, connections timeout etc. The effect is the same whether I run it as root or not.

Config:

Code:

Data directory: /root/.local/share/adguardvpn-cli Mode: tun SOCKS port: 1080 SOCKS host: 127.0.0.1 SOCKS username: DNS upstream: Default (provided by AdGuard VPN) Tunnel routing mode: auto Change system DNS: on Crash reporting: off Send anonymized usage data: off Update channel: RELEASE Protocol: Default (auto) Post-quantum cryptography: Default (off) Show hints: on Debug logging: Default (off) Show notifications: Default (off) Outbound interface override: not set
This might be related to DNS? But I don't even know where to start with figuring out how my system manages DNS connections and so on, what to check and troubleshoot etc. The browser I use is LibreWolf, tried different DNS settings there, no effect.

One other thing I tried was installing systemd-resolved, but that just made my internet not work without a VPN either, so I removed it for now.

Please let me know what else I can share to provide more context, if necessary!
