Beginners Questions • [O/S] PC Switchoff

Hi all!

My OS: Debian 13

To logout and switch off, I usually clicked the Debian screen button but this was uneffective and the Debian background screen remained lighted so, after 5-10 s, I had to push the PC power button.
In some forum I read of the command:sudo shutdown -h now
This initially worked fine so I prepared the following shutdow.desktop file:

[Desktop Entry]
Name=shutdown now
Exec=sudo shutdown -h now
Comment=
Terminal=true
PrefersNonDefaultGPU=false
Icon=/home/antonio/Immagini/icone/ubuntu-mono-dark/actions/24/system-shutdown-panel.svg
Type=Application
Categories=System

This generally solves the problem but not always and the Debian background screen remains lighted.
How can I switch off securely my machine?
Thank you in adavnce.
