I agree with @FreewheelinFrank 's advice but wanted to say that the way you posed your question needs addressing a little, although you are running two OS's (using virtualisation) I would not consider this as running more than one OS on your laptop (aka bare-metal installation), if you want to run another OS along-side Windows (aka dual boot/multi-boot) you could use the windows partitioning app to resize Windows to a smaller size which would allow you to install your OS('s) of choice on the remaining free space. And if you follow @FreewheelinFrank 's advice you will likely find some relevant info for doing this tailored to your specific distro's needs.
With that said I would always recommend using a "live-image" of your distro of choice (if available) to ensure it can boot and run before committing to a bare-metal installation.
