I use libreoffice-calc to keep track of weekly updates to statistics.
With year 2025 finishing, I opened new spreadsheet for 2026, thinking it was
just a copy and paste job to transfer some calculations from the old spreadsheet
to the new 2026 version.
To my surprise the summary page with the calculation formulae was filled with #REF symbols.
Hence I had a 2025 spreadsheet which worked and a 2026 spreadsheet that had a problem.
An online search revealed where the problem lay. With the new default settings a reference A.2
no longer worked, but A!2 would, and did, work.
To change the setting to revert to earlier practice do this :
open the new spreadsheet and the following
Tools
Options
LibreOffice Calc
select Formula from drop down menu
In the new panel, under Detailed Calculation Settings - select 'Custom ...'
Details
In "Reference Syntax for string reference'
Select 'Calc A1 ! Excel A1'
And click OK.
As far as I can tell this is now completely resolved.
