Graphical Environments & Desktops • Re: Debian 13 Xfce - Positioning of icons on desktop [SOLVED]

I finally promoted to 13.3 the vm where I shuffle many files on the desktop and can now access this better. My desktop is a tmpfs, so no persistence, and yet icons.screen0.yaml is growing. An interesting thing is if a file comes in (scp'ed from another computer) with a prior filename in that list it goes to the former position. I'd usually have them appear on the bottom right and fill to the left. Now an oddball file will show up at the bottom, but many slots over to the left, skipping empty space. Seems random, but it's not...

Why this way? no idea...
I usually try to adapt to the way it is, but cruft creators do annoy me.
It seems icons.screen0.yaml really should be in ~/.cache since it is read/created at logon and is tolerant to deletion. I still assume if deleted on a system with persistent files in ~/Desktop it will be recreated from disk order. So relocating would solve it for me since ~/.cache is also a tmpfs. Linking the file may solve it for me. For users with persistence I'd think the right answer is for xfdesktop to rewrite the file on shutdown?

No progress yet.
