Thanks Aki, that seems to fit my situation well!
I loaded the OS optimized defaults with Win8 enabled (it was called a bit differently in my BIOS settings) and set the `intel_idle.max_cstate=1` kernel parameter. So far the issue didn't appear again, I'll observe it further.
