Thanks so much for your reply.
Here's what I plan to do :
I'll use nano. It doesn't feel too complicated, especially with
https://www.nano-editor.org/dist/latest/cheatsheet.html
the page of the nano text editor's shortcut keystrokes, which I'll leave open.
(When doing things in the terminal I generally leave the browser open to copy and paste, then close it before pressing Enter, opening it again if there's another step before a restart.)
I think I'll leave the "Types: deb src" lines as they are, though I'm certainly not compiling packages, and I don't think that anyone else would have to on this computer. But I'm nervous about changing things from the default, and that's how they came in.
This seems to imply that sources would only be downloaded when asked for with "apt source" :
I'll delete the three entries that were "# Modernized from /etc/apt/sources.list", leaving only the top two blocks :
Save, close, restart.
(This stuff is Code...Good God I'm not Coding?! I mean almost; just doing what I'm told, but still, changing something in code.)

one is deb, which indicates a repository used for downloading binary packages, and the other is deb-src, which is (only) used when downloading sources ("apt source ..").why are there two?
