Sorry for such a bad start.
Malware most likely is not the reason, if you use Debian. To me seems the disk is falling apart. Hope you have backup of your important data. Or hp's disk connector is behaving badly.
Do you have a usb cd-rom? If so, you could try live-Debian, and check the disk.
Or possible have a usb-docker for your harddisk? I have, for ide, sata and nvme
They don't cost much.
If you have another computer, would shutdown the hp, remove the battery, remove disk, and try in other computer.
