First of all, welcome here, switching to Debian is a good idea.
Think it's not your learning curve
but rather the fact that NTFS is no way documented and it is not a good idea to use it with Linux for reading and writing files.
Make a complete backup of your files, perhaps on an external drive formatted with exfat. Verify your backup with Windows and Debian.
Delete the NTFS partitions and create ext4 partition(s) instead.
Restore your files.
Later on, your backup media should be ext4. You can use rsync or a rsync-based backup tool for backing up.
