When attempting to start my PC, while the kernel is loading it gets stuck after getting to the point "Starting sddm.service module" and does not progress past this point even after leaving it for several hours.
It's not frozen because "starting sddm.module service" has a loading indicator that looks like this [ *** ] oscillating back and forth, but i can't interact with it in any way so I'm left with no choice but to hard kill my PC and restart.
If i load an earlier version of the kernel then everything works fine, so my theory that the kernel updated and broke it somehow, but I can't seem to find anyone else who's had this problem and I'm stuck on what to do to fix it.
This problem started a few weeks ago. I have debian installed on an external drive so that if i go traveling i can take my OS and all my files with me The only thing i can remember that before this problem started is unplugging my external drive for a few days to access windows which is natively installed on my PC. After plugging my drive with Debian on it back in, this issue started.
Some hopefully relevant info
Desktop: KDE Plasma 6.3.6 (using X11)
Kernel that doesn't work: Linux 6.12.57+deb13-amd64
Kernel that works: 6.12.48+deb13-amd64
CPU: Intel Core i7-8700
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti
