I would wager a guess that some projects have very tightened rules for donations, add in some adoption issues and administrative hurdles such as a dedicated team/person for reporting and finance tracking et al., ... outside and newly sourced funding likely are not as attractive.No idea. But it would be much easier, and private, for meI don't get why many foss projects don't accept foss money like bitcoin.
Contrast to that individual developers of F/LOSS projects whom can take donations readily with the 'buy me a beer/coffee' links on self funded project pages and report it as straight or business income.
