The first stage becomes much simpler if you create an immutable Debian on a usb. I am using a 128 GB Samsung usb as an example.
It turned out that the usb-based immutable Trixie works really great. I never liked, nor trusted, a usb-based OS. But things appear to have changed a lot. I have used this usb-based immutable Trixie desktop for work for three days. No problem whatsoever. I recently encountered a suspend-related problem with installed Trixie, but not on this usb. Further, since everything is run in ram, this immutable desktop system actually runs snappier.

Using a usb-based immutable Debian has a distinct advantage: if you happen to have an entrepreneurial spirit, you can sell an integrated system without worrying about the expensive hardware. The end-users can be advised to buy a mini-PC, which has become very powerful and very inexpensive, and I believe their size can be further reduced, if necessary. The possibilities are limitless.
