So, 83 viewers of this post had no comment. Not to worry though. I have reached a conclusion that you can probably take to the bank.
I purchased a Netgear WAX220 Access Point. I put on a fresh pot of coffee. I pondered the instructions and set them aside. I took it and hooked it into my network and after a few seconds I could see it grabbed a network address from my dhcp server and all was happy. So, I openned a browser on my daily driver and headed right over to the IP address of the AP. Immediately I had the AP show up and I had it setup in about 5 minutes.
So, What do I think of Ubiquiti ? Well, I think 'they' need to rethink some things. It seems you have to jump thru a whole bunch of procedures to properly setup just their access points. Evidently, I need a "Ubiquiti Security Gateway" to even setup a guest AP or just even a VLAN. Not too sure on that but thats what the controller software was showing me.
I think Ubiquiti is for those that have too much money to spend and enjoy trying to figure out how to navigate and setup a complex network. Its over engineered. I know what others will be saying here - "Oh Northpoint, Your just stupid". Well, Perhaps but it just seems to me that deploying and controlling a AP there are better ways. Like, Not having to install software to even setup a AP. A novel idea would to be able to just log into the ip address of the AP and configure things on a network. But, If you like seeing things like "Adoption Failed" or seeing it listed as adopting for like, EVER. Then Ubiquiti is for you. Also, After setting things up and discovering you need their additional equipment. So, To me this is kinda like the Microsoft of the networking world. I have to pass on it. Im sure netgear might have their issues but I really do not think it comes close to Ubiquiti.
The real cream of the crop is the default IP setting on the UAP. 192.168.0.X . Ah, Great. Especially if your network uses 10.x.x.x.x or any of the other local's.
OH. Forgot to mention -- Honorable Mention to @Uptorn for explaining the proper procedure to install a Ubiquiti network device
