Hello,

This topic was discussed on the debian-devel mailing list a few months ago (i.e. [1]), but as far as I know no consensus has been reached.

The dhclient program is part of the isc-dhcp-client package:

Code:

$ apt-file search /sbin/dhclientisc-dhcp-client: /sbin/dhclient           isc-dhcp-client: /sbin/dhclient-scriptisc-dhcp-client-ddns: /sbin/dhclient
The isc-dhcp-client is still currently distributed with Debian Testing alias Trixie (that is working in progress for the next Debian Stable):

Code:

$ rmadison isc-dhcp-client -a amd64isc-dhcp-client | 4.4.1-2+deb10u1   | oldoldstable | amd64isc-dhcp-client | 4.4.1-2.3+deb11u2 | oldstable    | amd64isc-dhcp-client | 4.4.3-P1-2        | stable       | amd64isc-dhcp-client | 4.4.3-P1-5        | testing      | amd64isc-dhcp-client | 4.4.3-P1-5        | unstable     | amd64
I suspect isc-dhcp-client will be with us in the next Debian Stable (currently testing).
