Hello can anyone please offer any suggestions on a problem I have with Debian.
I am running the latest Debian on an HP laptop.
I am running it with an external monitor plugged into the USB C port. My monitor is a modern one with USB C in as a way to drive the monitor (which incidentally works perfectly under windows 10 and 11).
When I plug in the external monitor whilst the laptop lid is open all is ok.
If I close the laptop lid I have two problems:
1. rather than turning off the laptop screen it dims it - as far as I can tell. (difficult to see as I close the lid but that seems to be the case and also the laptop gets hot as if the screen has been on).
2. if I turn the external monitor off then on again at a later time then it doesn't show the desktop. I have to unplug the USB C cable and then reinsert it. That causes the monitor to then work ok.
FYI I don't have either of these problems if I run the laptop with windows rather than Debian.
Any suggestions on how to fix these issues would be gratefully received.
Thanks
