I did try your suggestion.for the sources.list .I appreciate the help. Unfortunately apt threw several 'no GPG keys ' errors for the repos.
I wanted to clarify. it is actually an Intel ( AC7265) wifi card that the Android devices do not see. Just for completeness , Windows and Linux devies do see the hotspot fine and connects auto to it.
The Atheros wifi card I mentioned above , was visible to all devices on our home network, which it was . This is on a old beater box,i just created a hotspot in NetworkManager to see if it would show to all devices ,, ,i remote to for testing and try and compare problems like this one.
I'm not very good at creating a good work flow troubleshooting message on the forums,,it goes without saying. If you look at the nmcli command i posted it is showing the Intel 7265 card and associated firmware & drivers...etc.
