Nope, not good.(logging in as root through tty and starting lightdm)
As such, your child processes of root do not get a sound server. This is the problem.
A typical install should automatically execute lightdm on tty2 with a subsequent graphical user on tty7.
...as I remember, I don't use lightdm much.
