It's more of a habit I suppose. When I first got into Linux, Gnome felt adequate for my purposes. I tried KDE and others as well but back then I focused more on distrohopping than DE stuff. At work, I encounter(ed) Gnome and XFCE more than KDE so that's another part of it.Any reason for not going with KDE?
When Gnome went Canonical, I started fiddling with WMs which I have preferred ever since.
