The key icon generally means only that the partition is mounted. Can be unmounted by right-clicking, then selecting the option. Deleting the partition might cause problems, though. You should figure out why it's being mounted, presumably by /etc/fstab. Either comment out the line or make the mount nofail. Otherwise, you may find yourself with an unbootable system.gparted ... displays a key next the the partition name which I suspect means bitlocker.
Once you've taken care of that issue, I agree with the wizard that wiping the partition table with dd is the best way to start over with the drive.
